Tutorial "Tango to Evora"

First let's look at the tonality of the song, we have 3 flats so it is C minor, so every time before start working on this song, it will be very helpful to warm up on the scale C minor. This way you will prepare your ears for the right tune and your fingers for proper finger pattern, so you know exactly where is that semitones and where is tones.

Measurment here is 4/4, this will give you an idea about pulsation in the music which in will help you to build the fraises in the music. But while you just working on this music piece, I highly recommend to you count with eights, not with a quarter, for more clear rhythm at short nots.

Don't try to do all song at one time, divide it for pieces, and work with one piece at a time

At the beginning there is 10 bars break.

Letter A

During all later A we have two main rhythm figures: One has first strong bit,

Other has break for the first strong bit,

very important to make that break and start from the weak bit.

Before start to play it on the violin, just use your hands and voice and make sure you can do proper rhythm with your voice, doesn't have to be singing, just clear pronunciation like ta-ta-ta-ta taaa-taaa etc 😊

Now look at how the melody going. Melody goes from G down to C, so here is exercise to play before playing original text, this exercise will give you an idea about the melody and if you are not very good at shifting it will be easier to practice your shifting on this exercise, before playing original text. After you are good with the exercise, play the original text.

Last 10 bars in the later A have seam melody but this time its spread in different diapasons, this way we have here two voices, one in the higher pitch and other kind like echo in lower pitch. Here is exercise to practice before playing original text. Pay attention to positions you are playing in. You will start in IV position on the string A (La), and then you will move down one position at the time. Follow the fingers in the text.

Letter B

Here we have couple new rhythm figures, like this, where last not is eight and break, don't cut this not, but more like dissolve it in the air.

Next bur with quarter and a dote, and two sixteenths, gives us effect of delete and catching up on the sixteenths.

And the last one here....

So, we have again two things to work on: rhythm and intonation in the left hand.

Let's first make clear rhythm in these two burs, here you will have to count with half nots instead eights, but it will be already when you will play original. Now for better understanding of rhythm, with your voice and hands claps use this exercises in order:

And now clap and pronounce the rhythm of the later B first line counting eights for bits, to make Shure you are making these breaks and sixteens in time. After 3 or 4 times doing that, change counting for 1 bit = half value, and count all letter B .

Now exercises for intonation. Do them in order 5-6 times every exercise. After you are comfortable with them, you are ready try to play later B.

Letter C

Rhythm in here is seam as in letter A, so we are working just for intonation in left hand, with these exercises, you will start in the second position on the string E (mi) and for the third bur move to the III position on the A (la) string. Play each exercise 5-6 times.

After you are comfortable with them, you are ready try to play letter C, don't forget about repeat and jump to the second ending.:)

Letter D

Here we have exactly everything same as first part in letter B, except first bur.

Letter E

Very simple rhythm. Long slurs, using all length of the bow. For this – you must open your elbow, make your arm straight.

After working on the song piece by piece, try play all song together one time and after mark the spots where you weren't feeling comfortable. Work on that spots separate again. Always work with metronome, change the speed slightly for every play. And finally try to play this Tango with baking track.

Good luck.
